Two Feathers Babywearing Baby Ring Slings: Babywearing Made Cool

With summer in full swing, we want to make sure all of you busy, babywearing mommas and daddies are staying cool. As temperatures soar well into the 90s, you can be certain our Baby Ring Slings will help keep you and your baby at a comfortable temperature while you’re on the go. You might be thinking, “How could a baby carrier help keep you cool?” The answer is actually pretty simple - it’s made of 100% linen.

At Two Feathers Babywearing, comfort and safety are both a high priority. That’s why we work with linen experts from around the world in choosing the finest quality fabric for our slings. Linen is naturally thermoregulating, meaning it helps control your body temperature regardless of the season. In the hot summer months, it wicks away moisture, keeps you 5-7 degrees cooler than cotton and other fabrics. It can also absorb up to 20% of its weight in water before feeling damp. Its high air permeability allows ample air flow and quick drying time for those exceptionally hot days, allowing you and Baby to stay cool while enjoying outdoor activities. In the colder winter months, it works in reverse and retains your body heat, helping to keep you and Baby warm and cozy.

Dating back to 8000 B.C., linen is one of the oldest and most durable fabrics in the world. It was used by the ancient Egyptians in the mummification process as a symbol of purity and wealth. Various tombs discovered in modern times found the linen to be intact after thousands of years. Talk about longevity! In the Middle Ages, linen was used to make things such as shields and bowstrings, while people from classical antiquity used it in making body armor for protection.

Today, we use linen for bed sheets, handkerchiefs, dish towels, clothing, window treatments, tablecloths, and even in paper products like money. One set of linen bed sheets, when cared for properly, is said to last up to 20 years, while a set of cotton sheets is said to last three to five years. With its resistance to stretching and pilling, linen has proven itself to withstand the test of time.

  • Antibacterial—contains a natural antiseptic that inhibits the growth of bacteria.
  • Hypo-allergenic—no allergic reactions means it’s safe for use on even the most sensitive skin.
  • Low-elasticity—keeps its shape over time and washings.
  • Environmentally friendly—requires less water to grow flax, which is used to make linen.
  • Repels dirt—fewer washings are necessary.
  • Gets softer and more elegant with age and use.

In addition to being made of a naturally durable material, our Baby Ring Slings undergo hefty testing to ensure they’re safe enough for your precious cargo. Recommended use is 8 to 35 pounds, but all slings are tested in a government approved facility and withhold up to 150 pounds. The aluminum rings can withhold up to 250 pounds. Our products are both CPSIA and CPSC certified and tested for laundering, sharp points or edges, small parts, monofilament threads, structural integrity, occupant retention, and flammability.* We are also members of the BCIA (Baby Carrier Industry Alliance) and Handmade Toy Alliance, both dedicated to quality, safe goods for children. Rest assured we are always working to make sure our slings are safe and lasting baby products in your family.
